Welcome to our September newsletter,
We’ve had a strong start to the export season with great value captured in high performing Asian markets backed up with superb fruit quality.
Our Grower Services Team recently supported the AIC Grower Forums in
Whangarei and Bay of Plenty. Most pleasing to see at the BOP event was Rodney and Diane Bell presented with the award for most consistent yielding orchard for 2016-17. Great people, great growers. Well done Rodney and Diane!
Earlier this month, I spent a few days at Darling Group’s produce wholesale, marketing and logistics company, JH Leavy & Co. in Brisbane. This is a superb facility with state-of-the-art infrastructure providing us with an Australian platform for our avocado business there and further export business into Asia across a number of other produce lines. If you are heading to Brisbane, please let us know if you would like a tour of this impressive facility where your avocados are handled and the exciting Brisbane wholesale markets.
Inside this month’s newsletter, Erica covers the important flowering stage our orchards are on the cusp of. We profile the development work at Woodland Orchards to turn difficult land into valuable hectares for horticulture. Jacob Darling and new JH Leavy & Co. team member Frank Evans cover off the state of the markets, plus we have updates on what’s happening in your area from Greg and John.
Looking forward to catching up with Northland growers at our upcoming field day.
Regards,
Jarrod
